How to connect your iPhone to a Wi-Fi Network

If you have just bought your new iPhone and are wondering how to connect it to your Wi-Fi network, then this post is meant for you.

Connecting to a network, whether hidden, open, or secure shouldn’t be a problem. The settings to be followed are all similar for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. All you need to do is follow the steps outlined here:

Connecting to a Wi-Fi network on your iPhone

To connect to a Wi-Fi network when using your iPhone, do the following:

  • Go to the home screen
  • Tap settings
  • Navigate to Wi-Fi
  • Tap the name of the Wi-Fi
  • Select join

This is all you need to do and the Wi-Fi network icon will appear at the top of your screen. It if doesn’t appear, then you haven’t joined properly and you will have to redo the process.

If you are connecting to an open Wi-Fi, it should join immediately. Otherwise, if the network is hidden, you will be prompted to enter more information. This is how to join a secured Wi-Fi network:

  • Tap Settings
  • Go to Wi-Fi and tap to select
  • Enter the password
  • Tap join
  • If join doesn’t work, then your password is incorrect and you will have to enter a new one.

Once you join, the Apple Wi-Fi icon will appear on the home screen of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod.

If you are connecting to a hidden network, you will need to follow an additional step. This is to help your iPhone discover the network before it can join. The following steps should help you join to a hidden network on your iPad or iPhone.

  • Go to Settings
  • Open Wi-Fi and ensure it has been turned on
  • Select Other
  • Enter the name of the network
  • Select security
  • Select the type of security
  • Tap on Other Network
  • Enter password
  • Tap Join

A network icon should appear at the upper side of your iPhone’s display. Using the steps outlined here, you shouldn’t have any problems connecting to any network.
